Can you please specify the outer diameter for 5TC-TT-T-36-72, 5TC-TT-T-40-72 and 5TC-KK-T-40-72

Asked by: tyrysh
Thank you for your inquiry. OD of 5TC-TT-T-36-72 is 0.5 x 0.8 mm (0.019" x 0.030") and for 5TC-TT-T-40-72 it is 0.5 x 0.8 mm (0.017" x 0.026"). 5TC-KK-T-40-72 is not a valid part number.

We are looking for sensor with 80um bead dia (5TC-TT-*-40-** model). However, we need an accuracy of somewhere around 0.1degrees. Our temperature variation would range between 20-26 degreeC. Material would be agar-phantom. Suggest thermocouple type.

Asked by: BJM07
Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we do not have a thermocouple that can meet a 0.1°C accuracy.

Hi, for this kind of thermocouple wires that they have just a little part appeared, can i immerge them in liquid and solid phases of a solution or just liquid phase. If not, could you please suggest this kind of thermocouples for both phases? thanks

Asked by: moun1992
Thank you for your inquiry mouna1992. These thermocouple wires are great for solid phases but not great for liquid phases. We recommend getting an immersion probe or hermetically sealed thermocouple which would allow you to immerse the probe into the liquid state and still allow to take a measurement in the solid state. Here is the link for the first option: https://www.omega.com/en-us/temperature-measurement/temperature-probes/probes-with-lead-wires/p/TJC36. Here is the link for the second option: https://www.omega.com/en-us/temperature-measurement/temperature-wire-sensors/p/HSTC.

The process temperature range for 5TC-TT-T-36-72 Type T Thermocouples is listed as 0C to 150C. Is that accurate? I thought Type T thermocouples are typically rated for approximately -270 to 370C.

Asked by: Chubbs
Thank you for your inquiry. Omega only tests for accuracy above 0 C, but type T thermocouples can measure down to -270 C. 150 C is the maximum temperature limit for the wire gage and insulation for this part number.

What is the best way to connect a fine thermocouple (K-type, AWG 40) to a data logger?

Asked by: Ayoub
Thank you for your inquiry Ayoub. The type of data logger input determines whether you need a connector or just the stripped leads to connect the thermocouple to the logger. In terms of connectors, you can get a miniature connector like the SMPW or a standard connector like the OSTW. Please make sure that you check the temperature range of the connector before purchase.

How does resistance change with the length of thermocouples. What I mean is that, how accurate your readings are when you elongate thermocouples?

Asked by: Hakiza
Thanks for connecting with Omega. Essentially the longer the wire the higher your resistance will be. However, based on how we gauge things here at Omega, the change in resistance becomes excessive if you are exceeding 100ohms or 100ft of wire. The diameter of the wire also plays a role in the resistance of the wire. The thicker the wire the less resistance it will carry. For more information you can always check out this link, https://www.omega.co.uk/temperature/Z/pdf/z049-050.pdf

I purchased 5TC-GG-J-36-36 which is fiberglass insulation and is rated 482 °C. I am using 350 °C, but the insulation becomes white in color and peels off which makes the reading from the thermocouple wrong. Why did this problem happen and how to fix it?

Asked by: Mohammad
Thank you for your inquiry. This part number has a maximum process temperature of 315°C as stated. Thickness of the insulation is affects the maximum temperature capability of the sensor.

What is the maximum diameter of the 5TC-TT-T-40-36 wire and the accuracy of the sensor?

Asked by: HGNPAmarathunga
Thank you for your inquiry. Thermocouple wire is double insulated meaning there's insulation on each individual conductor then it's wrapped in an overall insulation. Since the wire is double insulated it's not perfectly round it's oval shaped, giving dimensions 0.017" x 0.026". The sensor meets SLE standards so accuracy will be +/- 0.5C or 0.4% of reading, whichever is greatest.

What is the temperature range for 5TC-TT-T-20-72? Can it measure at -80℃? what is the maximum temperature? Then is this made up from special limit of error wire?

Asked by: Lee1
Thank you for your inquiry Lee1. The process temperature range of 5TC-TT-T-20-72 is 0 to 260 C (32 to 500 F) and this thermocouple is made from special limit of error (SLE) wire. It could measure -80 C but the accuracy for all the SLE thermocouples is not guaranteed for measurements below 0 C since it is non linear below 0 C.
